General
Could my headaches be related to a problem with my eyes?
Refractive errors in your eyes, Glaucoma, Strabismus, and other eye conditions can manifest with headaches. Comprehensive eye examination by an eye doctor can reveal any problems related to your eyes.
Can diabetes or hypertension affect my eyes?
Some chronic diseases like these can negatively affect your eye condition and even lead to vision loss. Therefore, individuals, especially those with diabetes and hypertension, should undergo regular eye examinations at specified intervals.
When should the first eye examination for children be done?
In our country, there is a widespread misconception that eye problems in children will disappear as they age. However, signs such as strabismus, white pupils, excessive eye discharge, irregular eye shapes, drooping eyelids may indicate conditions that need immediate treatment. It is crucial for families noticing any abnormality in their children's eyes to promptly consult an eye doctor. Many eye problems in children are urgent and, if left untreated, can lead to permanent vision loss. You can take your child, including newborns, to an eye doctor for a comprehensive eye examination.
Does corneal transplantation mean eye transplantation?
Corneal transplantation, known as keratoplasty in medical terminology, can be mistakenly referred to as eye transplantation by the public. Nowadays, complete eye transplantation, meaning replacing the entire eyeball, is not possible. In corneal transplantation, only the transparent layer of the eye, the cornea, is replaced.
What is eye allergy, and what causes it?
Many allergens such as pollen and chemicals trigger our body's defense mechanism. Allergic reactions in our eyes can manifest with symptoms like redness, watering, stinging, and itching. To prevent such situations, you can avoid known allergens and use medication or eye drops prescribed by your eye doctor.
What is dry eye, and how is it treated?
Dry Eye Syndrome occurs when an insufficient amount of tears is produced to keep our eyes moist and comfortable. This condition can cause sensations like burning, stinging, and itching in the eyes, or, paradoxically, excessive tearing due to irritation of the tear gland. In mild cases, artificial tear drops and gels can be used to keep the eyes moist. In some advanced cases, minor surgical procedures performed by an eye doctor may be necessary.
