What is Blepharitis (Eyelid Inflammation)?

Blepharitis is the inflammation of the edges of the eyelids. This condition can cause symptoms such as irritation, redness, itching, and flaking of the skin at the base of the eyelashes. Blepharitis can occur due to various reasons, including inadequate eyelid hygiene, skin conditions, inflammation of the tear glands, or bacterial infections.

How to Perform Eyelid Massage for Blepharitis?

Eyelid massage for blepharitis is a treatment method used to clean the edges of the eyelids and reduce inflammation at the base of the eyelashes. This massage is performed by gently applying circular motions to the edges of the eyelids using a cotton pad soaked in warm water or a clean finger. The massage should be done regularly to alleviate eyelid inflammation and improve the drainage of the eyelid glands.

What is Chalazion?

Chalazion is a type of cyst formed as a result of blockage and inflammation of the oil glands located at the edge of the eyelid. This condition can cause symptoms such as swelling, tenderness, and redness of the eyelid. Chalazion is usually treated with warm compresses, eyelid hygiene, and sometimes surgical intervention.

What is a Stye?

A stye is a specific abscess that develops at the edge of the eyelid and intersects with blepharitis at certain points in its mechanism. The external stye that develops on the edge of the eyelid is usually caused by a staphylococcal bacterial infection of the Zeiss glands at the lid margin. The internal stye, on the other hand, develops on the inner surface of the lid and arises from a staphylococcal infection of the meibomian glands. When the infection becomes prominent before much inflammation, it results in direct blockage of the oil glands, leading to a cystic condition called Chalazion, which often requires minor surgical intervention for treatment.
